ADASTRA SUPER YACHT LAUNCHED BY HONG KONG BILLIONAIRE – I’ll make no bones about it; I’m in love! Say what you like about the super rich and their toys because most of us would be buying high-end luxuries if we had the cash.
The latest toy for the super rich is the giant three-hulled 42.5 metre long super yacht Adastra which was commissioned by shipping magnate Anto Marden, founder of Fenwick Shipping Services, and his wife Elaine.
The waters surrounding Hong Kong are just perfect and no doubt the couple will enjoy endless island hoping. Of course they could sail through the Philippines, into Singapore, Indonesia and even the Andaman Sea to Thailand and what better way to spend a vacation.
At £15 million the Adastra is a modest purchase when you look at some of the super yachts currently on the world’s oceans; some running into well over £200 million.
Adastra was designed by Sussex based yacht designer John Shuttleworth and is one very high-tech vessel. It is reported that Adastra can be fully controlled by an iPad within a 50 metre range and that its overall high-tech space look is no mere gimmick.
Adastra took 3 years to build and yesterday was launched in China surrounded by the world’s media and boating enthusiasts.
Built from glass and Kevlar the triaran vessel is designed to cut through the water and provide greater stability in the waves. It also boasts a fuel tank large enough to travel 4,000 miles on a single filling.
Its power units are 2 Yanmar 110hp @3200 rpm outrigger engines and Boat International has dubbed Adastra as the new efficient super yacht design of the future.
I have to admit I think she’s beautiful but I’m a little bit more conventional when it comes to super yachts and I would personally prefer, in my dreams, something a little more traditional. The video below is something that I would much rather own; if only I was a billionaire!
A while ago I wrote an article on a Boat Island, for Hometipster.com, which was reported to be available for £3 million; somewhat cheaper than the price tag on Adastra and I have to admit at the time I was very intrigued with the idea; but alas anything over twenty bucks would have me pushing my boat out.
