APPLYING MAKEUP WHILE DRIVING – YOU MUST BE INSANE – There are a number of highly dangerous occupations whilst driving a vehicle that you should be avoid at all costs; these including drinking, eating, smoking, talking on a mobile phone, text messaging and of course the ladies favorite, applying make-up.
I seriously doubt any of us could hold our hands up and state that we haven’t been engaged in one or more of the activities above; although applying make-up is not exclusive to women they do in fact make up a large percentage of that crime.
In a recent survey 43% of women admitted applying make-up whilst driving and most of this was simply due to the fact that they often get up late for work and therefore have to apply their make-up whilst on the move.
I’ve witnessed a number of accidents over the years, some minor but some extremely horrific and a number of these occurred due to women being distracted due to applying their make-up.
I once sat in a traffic jam where traffic was moving at no more than 15 mph and yet in the opposite lane I witness a young woman reach across to the passenger’s seat and dump a rather large bag on the dashboard.
The bag was full of every type of cosmetic known to man and for the next hour she happily applied most of it to her face and indulged in a manicure and even applied nail polish.
During the ordeal she came close to rear-ending the car in front on less than 37 times due to her distraction.
What could I do but shake my head in disbelief; which caught her attention and which I was rewarded with by being given the middle finger.
I have to admit if it wasn’t for the injury that the poor driver in front of her would have sustained I would have loved to see her rear end his car. At one point I got level with the driver in front of her and glanced across to watch his reactions.
He was fully aware of what she was doing and cringed and braced every time he had to apply the brakes. I am sure the poor fellow spent the rest of the day recalling the incident to his friends and colleagues at work and wondering what miracle was at work that prevented an accident.
I’m not in any way a vein type of person; I’ll used deodorant and make sure I’m fairly well groomed but I’m not into buying jells or other specialist male cosmetics; for me it’s simply a waste of time. When it comes to women I prefer the natural look and quite frankly looking at a woman that has just applied a layer of make-up that is akin to rendering a brick wall is not attractive at all.
One thing I’ve noticed over the years is that women often feel that men are inconsiderate and I’ve certainly witnessed my fair share of this and so therefore have to say that men can be quite an inconsiderate bunch.
However why can’t women show a little bit more consideration by NOT applying their make-up whilst attempting to drive a car?
We all want our roads to be safer and we all want to see more courtesy on our roads but this does take a collective effort.
The next time you get behind the wheel of your car try turning your mobile phone off, leave your cigarettes behind, don’t take food with you and above all lock your make-up in the boot of your car. You could well end up saving your own life and more importantly the life of an innocent victim.
Finally I have to say that I have zero tolerance for people who break the law behind the wheel. If it was left to me I would impose a £5,000 fine for anyone caught using a mobile phone or applying make-up as a first offence and with the second offence a £10,000 fine and the loss of the driver’s licence.
If you want to prevent people from engaging in a reckless activity then the law must reflect the seriousness of the crime and if you are more interested in chatting, texting or applying make-up then you won’t mind paying the fine.
Please ladies, we guys think you look just great without your makeup and remember no amount will help you in the morgue. Drive Safe!
