ARCHBISHOP ACCUSES ENGLAND OF ABUSING THE SCOTS – Once again Justin Welby, the Archbishop of Canterbury, has made a remark that will no doubt have the Scottish nationalists once again waving the flag of oppression.
During a speech in Iceland Justin Welby yet again brought up the subject of Wonga and the Pay Day Loans industry and as he rambled on he made a number of remarks that he obviously thought amusing.
As Justin Welby challenged Pay Day Loans operations he noted that such was the widespread ill-feeling towards the extortionate interest rates that even the English and Scots were working alongside each other in order find a way to bring these companies down.
“It is such a powerful movement that we are even working with the Scots about it.
And there is a miracle. It takes a lot to make the Scots willing to work with the English. Understandably…we have spent about 800 years ill-treating them.” Justin Welby, the Archbishop of Canterbury
It is likely the Scottish nationalists are now having a field day at Justin Welby’s remarks and will almost certainly be used in the run-up to the independence referendum in September 2014.
You would honestly think that Justin Welby would have learned by now to keep quiet about the subject of Wonga; especially considering that the Church of England’s investment portfolio contains a significant shareholding in the company – it was after all the CofE that providing the initial seed funding with got Wonga off the ground.
Yes the CofE has some very questionable investments within its portfolio including the production of pornography and arms manufacturing; peace is clearly not profitable and in a world full of war and violence the Church certainly is making a very tidy sum on its investments.
There has of course been a lot of fuss over Scotland becoming independent and I really don’t see the problem with it; after all the Scots are a proud nation and have never really considered themselves to be part of England.
Of course independence is a double-edged sword. Currently the Scottish Parliament has the right to walk across the border and demand cash from the British taxpayer. If independence is sought and granted then that will no longer be the case and instead of demanding they’ll have to beg.
This is pure economics for Scotland is a reasonably large country but only has a population of 5.2 million and therefore will not be able to generate sufficient tax revenue to sustain infrastructure and economical development.
Independence is fine but it should mean independence if that’s what the people of Scotland truly want for if they do insist upon it then it is most likely they’ll have to come begging to the English for a handout.
I for one certainly don’t blame the Scots for wanting to be rid of the English; after all we’ve become a nation who no longer has the will or vision to tackle the core issues that will eventually bankrupt the country.
As for the likes of Justin Welby; well let’s just say that he is the true face of Christian Church and all it stands for – stupidity, ignorance, war-mongering, child abuse, pornography, banking with extortionate interest rates and of course standing in the pulpit in order to rally a nationalistic uprising.
