ARE WE A PROGRESSIVE SOCIETY AND WHAT DOES IT ACTUALLY MEAN – In the video above Pat Condell gives his rendition of how we have become a ‘progressive’ society and the damage that this being a progressive society has caused.
As Pat correctly points out the word progress means to move slowly; tackle issues bit by bit and move at a pace where society can absorb change in manageable quantities.
The dictionary defines ‘progressive’ as:
Adjective: Happening or developing gradually or in stages; proceeding step by step.
Noun: A person advocating or implementing social reform or new liberal ideas.
Synonyms: Adjective, advanced, onward, forward.
The trouble is; are we right to be progressive and if so what are, if any, the benefits of such a society?
I often berate the liberals as I feel we are coerced into a set way of thinking and yet the liberal way does allow for free thinking and the promotion of considering another’s point of view.
Progressives on the other hand would much rather spoon feed you with ideology that is not an option to be considered nor debated; but rather implemented for the greater good. We have over the decades learned that this is how the rise of communism and totalitarianism governments are created that inevitably control and restrict any type of free thought.
I wouldn’t like to describe myself as a liberal and I am certainly not in the progressive camp; if I were I wouldn’t allow people to post comments on the articles that I write nor would I allow others to post their own articles in order to give them a voice on their views.
I am a conservative who believes in decisive action. I often view the world as shades of grey and not merely black and white because nothing in today’s society is really clear cut nor are the solutions to the issues around the world.
I’ll leave you to decide for yourself as to whether we should promote a ‘progressive’ society or take a more liberal or conservative route. Of course your decisions will ultimately affect the society in which you live and therefore a more open minded approach, you may decide, is in fact a better solution.
Take the time to watch Pat Condell and his video on ‘progressive’ policies; he makes some extremely good points as to why progressive policies should not be considered in a forward-thinking, modern society.
