BBC FLEECING THE TAXPAYER – Marmite, HP Brown Sauce, the NHS and of course the BBC are icons of Britain.
For decades we’ve munched on our Marmite and poured lashings of HP Brown Sauce on our bacon butties. In times of poor health we’ve relied on the NHS and when it comes to being informed or entertained we’ve happily sat down and turned to the BBC.
It’s a good job that Marmite and HP have never changed their recipes for if they did it would spell an end to an era of what we have learned to trust and respect.
Whatever happened to the likes of the NHS and BBC? Reports are now being leaked that the taxpayer is once again being fleeced as the BBC handed over nearly £370 million of licence payers’ cash to pay off BBC bosses as they were shown the door.
Public trust of the BBC is now at an all-time low. It has over this last year alone faced a number of public inquiries and probes into what is nothing less than a shameful cover-up of lies, deceit and corruption.
A number of Government Ministers jumped on the band wagon to admonish BBC bosses as they called the pay-offs ‘an outrageous disregard for licence fee payers’ money’ and whilst this is the stark truth it is a little like the pot calling the kettle black.
The pay-offs, according the National Audit Office, is a direct breach of the BBC’s own guidelines however that didn’t prevent BBC bosses from handing out £61 million to senior managers as they left the BBC’s employment.
Has the BBC come to a point where it should no longer be funded by the taxpayer? What exactly does the taxpayer get from the BBC that it cannot get from the independents?
In a recent survey less than 30% of the public felt the BBC now offers a superior service over their independent counterparts. It also noted that if the BBC was operated on a subscription fee basis less than 30% would actually bother subscribing.
The usual rhetoric is now flying around the halls of Parliament and the Culture Secretary, Maria Miller, has publicly stated that the ‘culture of pay-offs cannot be justified’ and yet despite what Ministers and MPs have to say it is highly unlikely that despite the fact that the BBC broke its own guidelines none of the recipients will be asked to return the stolen money to the taxpayer.
You can of course paint this any colour you like but at the end of the day what BBC bosses are doing is tantamount to theft of public funds. The public are continuously being fleeced from all quarters of Government and the Public Service Sector and the Government’s answer is to always set up another committee or watchdog that is supposed to solve the issues; but in reality these simply create jobs at inflated salaries for friends and family of those in power and where the outcome rarely, if ever, has any benefit for the taxpayer.
The BBC, in much the same way the NHS is operated, will continue to fleece the taxpayer and provide a sub-standard service. Yes our Ministers and MPs will of course point the finger and bellow hot air that will amount to absolutely nothing.
It is a fact that Government and the Public Sector Services are costing the taxpayer billions each year and yet despite the massive cost rarely does the taxpaying public ever see any tangible results.
We live in an era of almost no accountability and where Government will quickly move on to another subject in order to move the spotlight away from incompetence and all the while impose more austerity measures in order to squeeze the taxpayer further.
Thank heavens for Marmite and HP Brown Sauce for these are the only icons of British society that has any credibility.
