BEN BREEDLOVE: FOREVER 18 - Ben Breedlove, 18, touched the lives of millions of people around the world after his parents posted “This is my story” on Youtube; a two part video that describes his near death experiences. Yes, multiple times he was at death’s door and using cue cards he describes the “white light and peace” that is so often reported by others who have gone through similar circumstances.
Vidoe Part Two:
It was nearly two weeks after such an episode that he made the videos and seven days later, on Christmas Day 2011, Ben Breedlove passed away. His parents became aware of the videos shortly afterward and knew that Ben’s desire would have been for them to be shared.
Born with a heart condition known as Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, a condition that causes the heart muscle to thicken, he lived fully aware that any day could be his last; but this knowledge did not keep him from participating in life, although his parents did restrict many of his physical activities.
The videos share his near death experiences which began when he was four years old and occurred three more times during his brief life. Knowing that death was just around the corner, Breedlove went through alternating periods of both fear and hope of the afterlife. The videos are his way of assuring others that death is not to be feared.
“Do you believe in Angels or God? I do” Ben Breedlove
His love of life was evident in how he treated others and utilizing Youtube he created Breedlove TV and TotalRandomness512. Additionally, with several friends, he co-established OurAdvice4You, in an effort to encourage teens to make positive choices by posting videos about everything from dating advice for girls to more serious topics like his spirituality and heart condition.
Making a difference in the lives of others was how he lived, and his family continued what he began by donating his usable organs after he passed away. Breedlove himself had been on the heart transplant list and wanted nothing more than to be able to help someone else in need if possible.
October 29, a book written by Breedlove’s sister Ally, entitled When Will The Heaven Begin? was released. A tribute book filled with emotion, humor and inspiring stories, it serves as a memoir of Breedlove’s life and has allowed her to share her brother’s life in a way that only a sibling can.
The title of the book was taken from the song “Mr. Rager” and was part of a vision Breedlove had in which he was in a peaceful, white room. Instead of going on to heaven, Breedlove found himself called back to finish his purpose on earth; which as he saw it, was to inspire and encourage others.
There have been thousands of stories and testimonies from people around the world who have faced near death experiences and despite their differing personal beliefs; they carry a familiar theme: that of a bright light and an overwhelming feeling of peace.
For Ben, his near death experiences proved to him that there is an afterlife, and that there is no need to be afraid.
