CAMERON ADMITS HE DID NOT KNOW PUBLIC SECTOR CHIEFS EARNED MORE THAN HIM – In what can only be seen as an astonishing admittance to his growing incompetency the Prime Minister actually announced that he was not aware that many Public Sector Chiefs had a higher salary than that awarded to the Prime Minister or the Chancellor of the Exchequer.
So much for being ‘in touch’ with public sentiment, when you don’t even know what you are paying other incompetent personnel and simply furthers many to believe that David Cameron needs to find another job; preferably outside the public sector.
In an interview with the press Cameron said that he was ‘surprised’ at the number of senior staff who earned more than he did as Prime Minister. Maybe he should have read the newspapers over Sir David Nicholson’s pay package; that alone would have given him a clear insight as to how the British taxpayer is forced to employ members of the ‘old boys’ network’ regardless of their abilities; and in the case of Nicholson and most others, a severe lacking of.
The interview took a number of twists and Cameron announced that he didn’t think it was fair that certain chief executives in local councils and the NHS should be allow to earn more than the Prime Minister or the Chancellor. After obviously doing a little reading Cameron did point out that salaries, golden ‘hello’ and golden ‘goodbye’ handshakes have risen disproportionately over the last few years.
What worried me is that Cameron further stated that such pay awards might not actually be necessary to attract the right people for the job. When you look closely at Cameron’s relationship and refusal to sack Nicholson it is very easy to understand why the public are likely to turn their backs on the Tory Party at the next election. Indeed this week’s up and coming local elections could well spell out the sentiment of the public towards Cameron, his leadership and his government.
It was just last week that news broke over the number of excessive pay awards in the NHS alone and with the amount of newspapers, including the Daily Mail, carrying such a story it is almost incredulous to believe that Cameron was not fully aware of the situation. This can only lead the public to conclude one of a few things; Cameron is incompetent, Cameron doesn’t want the public to know how much he is paying his crony friends or Cameron simply doesn’t care. Of course this could be one, a combination or all three of the above but whichever it is clear indicates why the public have had enough.
It is almost astounding to think that in a time of recession where the average hard working taxpayer is being squeezed and the Government continuously calls for more austerity measures it still manages to pay outrageous salaries, bonuses and retirement benefits to those working in the public sector.
There is little room for doubt that local councils and central Government could save hundreds of millions every year if only any of them was capable of simple mathematics. When it comes to being wasteful of the taxpayers’ money we are all aware that local councils and central Government continuously abuse the system for their own financial gain.
There are literally dozens of committees and quango, all with chief on exorbitant salaries and whose job it is to report misuse of public funds to the public. The truth is only a fraction is reported as telling the whole truth would invariably mean losing jobs within these departments.
Some councilors and MP’s have said that public sector salaries should be more open to public scrutiny through annual or bi-annual publications. While this is a reasonable idea I worry that Government officials are simply looking for yet another way to hire a few more of their old school chums on an inflated salary. This type of reporting could be easily achieved at very little cost but the question remains… ‘While the public can see it and moan about it, will the Government actually do anything about it?’
Take the case of Nicholson – the public and senior health administrators were screaming for Cameron to sack Nicholson. The result is, for all the public demands Nicholson remains in his job which again leads me to suspect that Cameron has no intention of bowing to public demand – which is supposed to be his job.
While many of you, like me, will be incensed over this latest revelation that Cameron hasn’t got a clue what is going on we know that there is little we can do but to show him our disillusionment over his abilities in the up and coming local elections; which I am sure will be a true reflection come the General Election in 2015.
There is one comforting thought… not for the public but rather for Cameron. Once he is kicked out of Downing Street he’ll walk straight into Europe and get a high paying job with the other failed and incompetent Politicians; which is why of course Cameron won’t give the public a referendum on the EU now as he knows that when his time is done here it is unlikely he’ll be able to get a job anywhere other than in the EU with the rest of this buddies.
