Dubai Rape Victim Arrested for Unlawful Sex Outside of Marriage

DUBAI RAPE VICTIM ARRESTED FOR UNLAWFUL SEX OUTSIDE OF MARRIAGE – An unnamed 29 year old Austrian woman was a victim of rape whilst visiting Dubai.

The woman, herself a Muslim, attended a party where she consumed an unknown quantity of alcohol.   After leaving the party she entered an underground car part and it was there that a Yemeni man approached her and subsequently raped her.

After reporting the crime to the Dubai police she was subsequently arrested for having sexual intercourse outside of marriage and for the consumption of alcohol.

During her ordeal the police told her that the only way to avoid jail was for her to marry her rapist.

As an Austrian citizen the Austrian Foreign Ministry intervened after putting together a crisis team in order to secure her release; according to reports over 260,000 signed a petition supporting her immediate release.

Under Islamic Law engaging in sex outside of marriage is illegal along with the consumption of alcohol; both of which carry severe penalties.

It is well known that Dubai has an extremely large expat community and that the authorities in Dubai have for a number of years turned a blind eye to hotels, resorts and certain establishments serving alcohol to westerners.

There have been a number of comments surrounding this incident and none more so than from other Muslims who feel that she, as a Muslim, should have been subjected to the full force of Islamic law; the consensus is that she was fully aware that it is forbidden to consume alcohol, although not much has been said about the rape.

Last year a 24 year old Norwegian woman was given a one year and four month prison sentence for engaging in sex outside of marriage; again she was the victim of rape and eventually pardoned.

Both cases have caused global outrage with a number of people calling on others to boycott visiting any UAE state; the views are that their wealth is derived solely from oil and tourism, both of which relies on Western attendance and consumption and therefore if such were removed it might affect positive change.

Dubai is quickly running out of oil; some experts report that Dubai will no longer be an oil producing nation by 2016.

As such Dubai has been quick to latch onto the idea of creating a city out of the sand which ultimately attracts wealthy expats and tourists; it is believed that if the tourist industry were to dry up the deserts of the UAE would quickly reclaim Dubai.

The issues here are one of culture and religion which both are completely alien to non-Muslims. If you do intend to travel to Dubai or anywhere in the Middle East it is advisable to find out what you may and may not do whilst staying in an Islamic country.

For many this latest incident will be seen not only as an atrocity but also flagrant abuse and one of double standards.

It is well documented that many Middle Eastern men travel to the UK and engage in all manner of questionable activities under their so-call faith.  It is nothing unusual to hear of Muslims engaging the services of prostitutes in high-end London hotels whilst consuming vast quantities of the finest alcohol.

On a darker side the rise in Child Sex Gangs is almost always perpetrated by Muslims; something the UK is currently battling to keep under control.

Once again we are able to clearly see the two faces of Islam; one that berates and condemns westerners and one that lauds the virtues of Muslim despite their questionable behaviour.

Issues such as these of course can be adequately addressed by simply refraining from travelling to such places; remember it is ultimately your tourist cash that supports the on-going atrocities from such a religious regime.
