GOOGLE SPYING ON YOUR EVERY MOVE WITH GOOGLE GLASS – I read today that a recent survey of 4,000 people resulted in 20% thinking that Google Glass should be banned from sale due to privacy concerns and that 69% wanted greater regulation of their use and transparency of how Google will use the information gained by the user.
It has already been established that if Google can get a sufficient take-up of Glass it could potentially be worth trillions of dollars in advertising as it tracks and then targets users’ behaviour.
I am one of the growing numbers of people now avoiding Google products due to their increased insurgency into our lives. Once dubbed the darling of the internet with its friendly and usable search engine, Google has become a global dominance of all activity on the web and our daily lives and our privacy is further being impinged upon as Google develops more services that infiltrate our everyday activities.
The last thing Google wants is more Government regulations forced upon it as this will stifle its ability to harness and use data for furthering its financial profits plan; however many people are extremely concerned that their privacy will be violated by wearing Google Glass or in fact being around people who are wearing the device.
The user’s ability to take photographs, video and even record conversations around them is a clear and unequivocally a violation of our privacy but Google is not concerned about that – its goal is to increase share value and feed the greed of its executives and shareholders and violating your privacy is of little or no concern.
The underlying question here is ‘Will Google Glass infringe upon the privacy of others?’ to which the answer is undoubtedly yes. I personally would not feel comfortable in the presence of anyone wearing the device and would ask them to remove them to prevent from photographing, videoing my activities or indeed recording my conversations.
I also strongly object to the way Google will be able to intrude upon my life as a wearer of the device. It has been slated that Google intends to use data mined from the device to promote products and service; therefore increasing its advertising reach. This will probably subject the user to subliminal messages of a commercial nature and is another step in brainwashing us to interact in order to fuel the profits of Google.
I for one hope this Google device will sink to the depths of the Marianna Trench and never be allowed to be publicly sold to anyone – there are simply too many unanswered questions which Google have refused to answer and given its track record of manipulating the web and secrecy it is unlikely Google will use the data responsibly.
Recently, during trials of the product, a number of hackers managed to gain access to the wearer’s information. This fueled speculation that hackers would easily have access to all photographs, video, conversations and personal data.
Google Glass is due to be rolled off the production line next year and despite this there is no specific legislation in place to protect the rights and privacy of others from Google’s increasing clandestine reach into our personal lives.
The ‘Anonymous’ group and their disdain for any ‘big brother’ like corporation or governments gives a stark warning to the use of Google Glass in the video below.
