Hammersmith and Fulham Councils NOT so Festive Message to Tenants
HAMMERSMITH AND FULMAN COUNCILS NOT SO FESTIVE MESSAGE TO TENANTS – Tenants of Hammersmith and Fulham Council, West London, might of expected a Christmas card from their local councils wishing them Yuletide greetings; however Hammersmith and Fulham Council had an entirely different message….
‘Don’t overindulge this Christmas. Pay your Rent’
Yes, some might have expected a pretty card with a beautiful snow scene or one that depicted Santa delivering presents but Hammersmith and Fulham Council obviously thought that to be overindulgence.
Some 17,000 Hammersmith and Fulham Council tenants received what they perceived as nothing short of insulting but the respective Councils stuck to their guns and declared that some 46% of their tenants are in arrears and that the cost of Christmas could push them further into debt making it even harder for them to pay their rent.
Some tenants took offense to the Council’s derogatory message but the Councils are adamant that they are simply sending a message to remind people of their obligations and that help is at hand if they are in financial difficulties and cannot pay the rent; a help line telephone number was also printed at the bottom of the cards which reads… ‘If you are having trouble paying your rent, we want to help.’ A telephone number was included to allow people to contact their council office.
