HOME SECRETARY TO BREAK UP BORDER AGENCY – The Home Secretary, Theresa May, gave a stark and scathing account of failings of the Border Agency in its ability to control the flow of both legal and illegal immigrants in Great Britain
From her Commons speech above, Theresa May is to disband the UK Border Agency in what she refers to as ‘5 years of catastrophic failure.’
The UK Borders Agency is now to be disbanded and control will brought back to the Home Office under the direct control of ministers in an attempt to stem the growing tide of illegal immigrants and clear a huge backlog of immigration applications that could take years to complete; a figure that currently stands at over 300,000 immigration cases that could take as much as 24 years to clear at massive cost to the taxpayer.
The UK Borders Agency was initially set up and outsourced to a private company under the previous Labour Government, at the time the Borders Act 2007 was enacted; something that Ed Miliband, the current leader of the Labour Party has admitted was a complete failure to the British people by opening the doors to all and any immigrants.
“UKBA was given agency status to keep its work at an arm’s length from ministers. That was wrong. It created a closed, secretive and defensive culture.” Theresa May, Home Secretary
The public are hoping that this will be the first move in a number of steps that the Home Secretary intends to make, including pulling out of the European Court of Human Rights and scraping the Human Rights Act 1998 that is mostly responsible for being unable to remove criminals and terrorists, such as Abu Qatada.
There is no doubt in the public’s mind that immigration has been left like a child to play with a box of matches and the result is the house is now burning to the ground. Unless this new measure can be implemented swiftly and efficiently (not something government officials are best known for) then this situation could go from bad to worse and the cost will continue to rise.
