IS THIS THE MOST RIDICULOUS CASE OF SUING A LAWER EVER? – A devout Roman Catholic, Jane Mulcahy, attempted to sue her lawyers over the handling of her divorce.
Now you might think that this is nothing unusual, after all lawyers are sued all the time, until of course you realise that she attempted to sue for negligence claiming that her lawyer didn’t clearly explain to her that by finalising the divorced it would result in the end of her marriage.
It’s true… Jane Mulcahy, after the case was dismissed by a High Court judge then took the case to the Court of Appeal where Judge Lord Justice Briggs finally threw out the claim stating…
“The most striking of Mrs Mulcahy’s many allegations of negligence against her solicitors was that, having regard to her Roman Catholic faith, Mrs Boots had failed to give her the advice which was requisite in view of her firmly held belief in the sanctity of marriage…
…either in terms of the alternative of judicial separation, or about the impossibility of pursuing divorce proceedings to a clean break settlement, without thereby inevitably bringing about the final termination of her marriage, which she wished to avoid.” Judge Lord Justice Briggs
It certainly makes you wonder how some people process information and how some clearly have a detachment from the realities of life.
No doubt next week they’ll be a case of someone suing a pet shop owner for selling them a dog that barks; chances are, considering the ridiculous cases brought before our courts, this has already occurred and probably on more than one occasion.
