Landmark Ruling Requires Google to Wipe Personal Details from its Search Engine

THE GUARDIAN– In a landmark ruling Google will now have to comply with user requests to have their personal details removed from Google Search.

Currently hundreds of people have applied for their information to be erased including requests from ex-politicians looking to be re-elected, a paedophile and a doctor.

The ruling has been dubbed the ‘right to be forgotten’ following a decision by Europe’s highest court.  The decision was made on the basis that the right to privacy should outweigh the freedom of search engines to store and link to personal information.
