MONKEY ATTACKS BABY AND EATS ONE HIS TESTICLES IN CHINESE ZOO – The safety of zoo patrons has been called into question by Chinese authorities after an 8 month old baby was attacked by a group of roaming monkey resulting in one tearing off the youngsters testicles and eating it in front of the horrified mother.
The attack happened in Qianling Wildlife Park in Southwest China. The Chinese news reports came as the baby was recovering in hospital after surgery.
Local officials have said that the monkey population at the wildlife park has gone unchecked; exploding from just 70 monkeys a few years ago to well over 500 today.
Despite most people’s perceptions of monkey’s eating fruits and berries they are also highly carnivorous and will eat meat given the opportunity.
According to the news reports the mother of the child watched helplessly and in horror as her baby was snatched up and one of the monkeys tore off the baby’s testicles.
The mother told reporters that she was changing her baby at the time when out of nowhere the monkeys surrounded her and snatch up her baby.
Eyewitnesses told how the money simply tore the baby’s testicle off and then dropped it but quickly returned to snatch it up and devour it before zoo staff could capture the monkey.
Zoo keepers told reporters that the monkeys are extremely well feed with a varying diet three times a day; this is on top of what patrons at the zoo feeds them; despite clear warning signs not to feed them.
According to the Qianling Wildlife Park it keeps detailed records on the number of incidents involving monkey and patrons and has stated that due to the ever growing population of the monkeys the number of incidents, varying in severity, now runs into the hundreds every year.
