MOTHER TOLD BREASTFEEDING HER BABY IS OFFENSIVE – 27 year old Sophia Howes is a midwife and a mother.
During a trip to her local swimming pool her 8 month old daughter became restless and mother knew that it was time her daughter needed feeding.
Sophia is one of millions of mothers who prefers to breastfeed her child and without thinking much about her surroundings she did what came naturally; took out her breast and proceeded to feed her daughter.
Within minutes of doing so the public swimming pool manager tapped her on the shoulder and asked her to stop as the resident lifeguard found her actions offensive.
Sophia was told that if she wanted to breastfeed her baby then she should do so within the confines of the changing rooms.

When I read the article the Daily Mail had included a poll in which it asked readers; “Should mothers be allowed to breastfeed in swimming pools?”
Without thinking much about it I decided to participate and click ‘Yes’. After all breastfeeding a baby is a natural thing for any mother to do and how anyone could view such an act as offensive is frankly beyond my comprehension.
Unfortunately I was left astounded for when I pressed ‘Yes’; the results displayed nearly had me fall out of my chair.
The results… 26% feel it’s fine whilst a staggering 74% feel that mother’s shouldn’t breastfeed in a swimming pool.
Why not? I proceeded to the comments section of the page in order to widen the perspective. It was here that poor Sophia took more of a beating.
Nearly every comment agreed that breastfeeding is the most natural thing in the world but she or any other woman shouldn’t be allowed to just whip out a breast and have at it.
The comments never gave much of a reason other than stating it was wrong – hello… it’s wrong? So are those commenting suggesting that it’s perfectly natural and then contradicting themselves by saying its wrong?
It looks that way to me… maybe this is why Britain is in such a mess – we’ve become a nation of blithering idiots.
Look I’ll lay this on the line… there’s not a guy I know who doesn’t like breasts and all women have them. Therefore it’s safe to say that they are useful, admired and indeed good fun – so why on earth would anyone find a woman feeding her baby as being offensive and indeed wrong.
I’m sorry I don’t get it… are we equating the act of breastfeeding on the same level as the atrocities in Syria.
You might feel that’s a little extreme but I read the news avidly and I read on what people have to say.
Many articles I wrote and read on the Syrian crisis received comments that were nonchalant to say the least; but write a story on a woman breastfeeding a baby and all of a sudden the nation becomes aggravated.
For those who find the beautiful sight of a mother providing sustenance for her child offensive then I can only deduce that you have certainly lost the plot, you’re probably even delusional.
Considering the poll figures in the Daily Mail’s articles, I am beginning to see why Britain is in such a state of despair; for we have lost all sense of reality and even morality when we find such a natural act offensive.
There were a couple of comments where the issue of contaminating the water came up… Oh please; what about all the kids and adults urinating – don’t you think the chemicals take care of that.
The only thing offensive about a woman breastfeeding her child is those that actually view the act as such.
