NOWHERE FOR THE CHILDREN TO PLAY AS COUNCILS CLOSE PLAYGROUNDS – Britain has become a disgraceful nanny and compensation claiming state which is now forcing many Councils to close children playground areas.
If it isn’t the rigorous Health and Safety ‘jobs worth’ brigade then it’s parents suing Councils over nothing more than a scraped knee. Why? Because that’s the culture Britain has turned into. Once a robust and proud nation with a population of people with real work ethics and morals is now not even a mere shadow of it. In fact Great Britain has been dead these last 20 years and the corpse is just left to fester and rot.
Today’s parents are now greedy and selfish and will use almost any opportunity to scrap the taxpayers’ coffers and none is such an easier target than the liberalised state who will readily dish out cash for even the most minor of injuries.
Farfetched? If you think that is the case then consider why Kent County Council is now closing public playgrounds. The answer lies in the massive annual compensation payouts that parents have claim; some even as trivial as a scraped knee.
Since 2008 Kent County Council has paid out over £700,000 in compensation, while Essex paid out nearly £230,000 in just five years.
Considering all the costs associate with playground equipment, maintenance and health and safety compliance, running these is simply ludicrous especially when some are just using the facilities in order to sue the Councils for injury payments.
While the British have often pointed a very disappointing finger at their cousins across the pond it is no wonder that many feel this is now a very cheap shot at the Americans; considering that our own sue and claim culture has spiralled with the lure of easy money.
The British moan and whine that our Education system is failing and yet they are so quick to jump on the band wagon and claim compensation for when a child has an injury even when it occurred as a direct result of the child ‘breaking’ the rules.
Solicitors have gleefully adopted the American ‘ambulance chasing’ culture by offering parents a ‘no-win-no-fee’ deal that most find impossible to refuse – regardless to the morals or rights and wrongs.
Our Councils and Schools are often advised to settle out of court due to rising legal bills and it now perceived that anyone claiming a sum below £12,000 will have their claim paid uncontested. It’s easy and fast cash, although the lawyers will take nearly half of that payment.
“There is no doubt that the compensation culture has got completely out of hand. People need to accept that sometimes accidents do happen and no one is to blame.” Jonathan Isaby, political director of the TaxPayers’ Alliance
There is a real danger here that the ever growing greed fuelled by easy compensation payments could put more than just our playgrounds at risk from closure. Schools only have so much funding a year and if greedy parents continue with the onslaught of claims then it can only be a matter of time when we will see schools start to close.
We need to stop finger pointing and learn that life has its risks and just because you can do something, that is make a claim, doesn’t altogether mean you should.
