NSA ACCUSED OF SPYING ON THE POPE – The National Security Agency (NSA) has now been accused of intercepting phone calls during conclave where Pope Francis was eventually elected as head of the Catholic Church.
According to reports the NSA tapped phone calls made from priests’ residence in which the then Archbishop of Buenos Aires Jorge Maria Bergoglio was occupying.
A current affairs magazine Panorama claimed that other leading bishops and cardinals were also being heavily monitored by the NSA.
With the recent revelations of the NSA spying on other world leaders, especially those pertaining to be allies of the United States, it appears that the NSA and U.S Government have no compunctions about who they spy on or when.
The CIA announced back in 2005 that Archbishop Jorge Maria Bergoglio was in fact a ‘person of interest’ and this might not be so surprising when you consider the power that an Archbishop wields.
According to an American website Crytome.org the U.S has monitored no less that 46 million Italian phones last year; many of which involved those in the Vatican and politicians.
The report has also detailed disturbing information in that it is accusing the NSA of spying on phone calls during the selection committee in order to elect a new President of the Vatican Bank – one of the most powerful banking institutions in the world.
The NSA is being accused of using information in order to determine the ‘threat level’ that the Vatican and its leaders pose to world stability, including but not restricted to the stability of the U.S Dollar.
The NSA has of course denied these allegations despite documents leaked by Edward Snowden that clearly showed the spying activities by the NSA on the Vatican.
A statement by the Vatican also denied these allegations stating that the NSA does not spy or target the Vatican and those current reports circulating such allegations is mere fabrication.
If the NSA was in fact spying on the Vatican it really does have an air of irony about it; that is an oppressive organisation spying on an oppressive organisation.
We wouldn’t be in the least bit surprised if these accusations were in fact true and it’s also likely to be nothing new.
The Catholic Church currently has over 1.2 billion followers and is without question the most powerful corporation in the world with far-reaching influence across politics, industry, commerce and banking.
The Catholic Church, similar to the U.S Government, operate on the perception of fear; that is the Catholic Church instills the fear that those who do not follow the Church or give freely are condemned to eternal damnation in the fires of hell, whilst the U.S Government uses the prospect of terrorism if the public do not allow them to continuously create legislation, such as the Patriot Act, in order to control.
Yes fear is a tool used highly effectively by both and both are highly oppressive regimes.
