PARALYSED MAN RAISES MONEY FOR OPERATION BUT GIVES IT TO BOY SO HE CAN WALK – Just when you are convinced the world is a cruel and uncaring place an individual comes along and does something so remarkable for someone else you realise that life is not that bleak after all.
25 year old Dan Black was paralysed in a cycling accident some 4 years ago. The accident left him wheelchair bound and since then Dan has been trying to raise money for a pioneering stem cell treatment that could enable him to walk once again.
So far Dan has managed to raise £20,000 which is a feat in itself, but that’s not what is truly remarkable about Dan Black; for here is a man that came across a similar plight from a little boy, Brecon Vaughan, who couldn’t walk.
Dan reflected on his situation and that of 5 year old Brecon and decided Brecon’s needs were far greater than his own and so donated every penny he raised, all £20,000 of it, towards helping Brecon reach his goal that would allow him to travel to the U.S and receive treatment that should enable him to walk.
Brecon has a rare type of cerebral palsy which makes his legs stiffen, making it impossible to walk unaided. Dan figured that Brecon’s treatment had a far better chance of success than his own and therefore in Dan’s mind it was a no-brainer; he simply had do the right thing and help a child.
Dan knows the difficulties in being confined to a wheelchair and it was not something he would want to see little Brecon have to suffer for the rest of his life.
“Brecon can definitely walk if he has the surgery. I wouldn’t wish being paralysed on anyone, so if I can help someone walk, I will.” Dan Black
It is without doubt an incredible thing to do especially when your own needs are so great but as Dan said in the video the type of treatment he needs is not yet available and could be another 5 years before it becomes so. This leaves Dan with time whereas Brecon’s surgery is available now and so the £20,000 Dan has raised for himself has now been handed over to Brecon.
In order for Brecon to have the surgery his family needs to raise a total of £60,000 and with 1/3rd coming from Dan little Brecon is well on his way.
According to the fundraising website (see below) Brecon’s funds are now up to nearly £16,000 and when Dan’s £20,000 hits the account this coming weekend it’ll take Brecon’s fundraising goal to just over the half way mark.
Let’s hope that many others see this news article and help Brecon in a similar way to which Dan has done. Random acts of human kindness occur all the time but so many of these slip by without us ever knowing about them. This for me is one act of kindness that is truly remarkable as one young man gives up so much for another.
Please share this article and hopefully lots of people will become aware and that little Brecon can have his much needed operation sooner rather than later.
Dan, we at meebal.com think you are a star – what a guy!
