RECESSION WINNER WARREN BUFFET MAKES $10 BILLION – Just five years ago Lehman Brothers collapsed with massive debt.
The banks collapse was nothing short of a boulder being thrown into a pond where its ripples caused a tsunami of devastation across financial institutions around the world. Yes we were now in the grips of a financial meltdown after the sub-prime fiasco finally came crashing down.
As for Britain its major lending institutions also failed as they too had heavily invested in the sub-prime market and as a result the taxpayer was lined up and forced to bail them out.
What resulted was a worldwide recession and Britain was snared into its grip – the Government has no choice but to squeeze the taxpayer for all they were worth; resulting in wave after wave of austerity measures – well that is for the taxpayer at least.
There are a few where the recession wasn’t really noticed; in fact some people accumulated vast wealth despite a worldwide recession and the banking crisis.
One of those was Warren Buffet and despite the last five years of misery for most Mr. Buffet managed to accumulate no less than $10 billion in that period.
There can be no doubt that Mr. Buffet is a shrewd investor who has lived by one of his maxims for years… “Be fearful when others are greedy, and be greedy when others are fearful.”
That certainly sounds like common sense to me and who am I to argue. If it cost $1.00 to get around the world I would have the funds to make it outside my own front door – yes not all of us dot.com owners are eccentric billionaires or even frustrated multi-millionaire; most of us are just struggling, like most folks, to make ends meet.
As you can see from the chart below the biggest windfall came when Mars Inc., repaid a $4.4 billion loan netting Berkshire Hathaway Inc, Mr. Buffet’s investment company, a handsome return of $3.8 billion.
Yes the figures are dizzying but Mr. Buffet certainly isn’t your garden variety investor – he thinks big, invests big and takes calculated risks on a number of economic factors.
Warren Buffet strongly believes in the creation of wealth but that wealth isn’t simply used to fuel the ego of just one man. Warren Buffet is another one of the remarkable individuals, such as Bill Gates, who has pledge most of his personal wealth for the betterment of mankind.
It would be easy for most people to look upon the likes of Warren Buffet and sneer at the bloated wealth of an individual but again Warren Buffet is one of those who does give so much back and will continue to do so as long as profits are made.
Before you dash off take a look at the video above. This is an hour long questions and answers with Bill Gates and Warren Buffet – it will certainly give you an opportunity to see just how these people think; you never know what you learn could quite easily set you up in becoming the next billionaire investor.
