SALLY BERCOW ORDERED TO PAY MASSIVE DAMAGES TO LORD MCALPHINE FOR LIBEL – After a number of celebrities blatantly accusing Lord McAlpine of child abuse Sally Bercow decided, unwisely, to defend her actions in the High Court. Other celebrities, such as comedian Alan Davis decided, wisely, to settle out of court for their libelous actions.
I have completely no sympathy for Sally Bercow, her actions and twitter rants, were completely unfounded and was intended to slur the good name of one of Britain’s most honourable peers.
My mother, many years ago, lived opposite Lord McAlphine. She often regaled stories of who decent the whole family was including what a wonderful and warm man Lord McAlpine’s father was.
It is rare in this day and age, as my mother puts it, to find such people and the McAlpine’s I knew where simply wonderful and compassionate human beings.
The judge at the trial has now handed Sally Bercow a six figure fee that she much pay to Lord McAlpine in which she openly accused him of child abuse. The original tweet read; “Why is Lord McAlpine trending? *Innocent face*”
Left: Lord McAlpine with his good name intact | Right: Sally Bercow ordered to pay £100,000 in damages
The High Court judge ruled that the tweet, which reached 56,000 online follower in November last year was a clear and decisive vile message that suggested Lord McAlpine was a child sex offender.
As Lord McApline’s lawyers began issuing writs against all those, including Alan Davis, for their libelous actions Lord McApline clearly stated that he did not want any financial restitution to go directly to him but rather he wanted a public apology, the statements recanted and that all those involved should pay a fee to a Children’s Charity of their own choice.
All involved in the libel took up Lord McAlpine on his generous offer; all accept Sally Bercow who obviously thought her position made her untouchable.
I have to say I’m more than a little gleeful over the verdict and I hope the £100,000 she has to payout hurts. I find the likes of Sally Bercow offensive on so many levels it is simply impossible to list them all; quite frankly she is a waste of space and hopefully her vile actions will prevent her from appearing on any more TV shows and save us from the torture of having to look at the woman’s face.
You might be asking how she could ever deduce that Lord McAlpine was ever involved in such a heinous act. It all started after BBC Newsnight wrongfully implicated the former Conservative Party treasurer in allegations of child sex abuse at a Welsh Children’s home between 1970 and1980.
While the BBC did not actually name Lord McAlpine it wasn’t long before rumours spread around the interest that connect him, wrongly, to the abuse.
It really does go to show you the tenacity of Sally Bercow, especially when the BBC has issued a public apology and agreed to a £185,000 settlement plus ITV also paid £125,000 after Phillip Scholfield revealed, allegedly an accident, the information card with Lord McAlpine’s name on it to the Prime Minister during an interview.
Sally Bercow however insisted her remark on twitter was not defamatory and therefore refused to settle.
Lord McAlpine, in February 2013, provided a press statement that this was now all dealt with, accept Sally Bercow, and felt that his good name had been restored. Lord McApline has now refused to give the whole affair any further airtime stating that this was the end of the matter.
I for one hope that this is the end of the matter and the last we here from this vile woman.
