SINEAD TAYLOR BULLIED TO DEATH – Sinead Taylor was a bright and truly beautiful young lady and at the tender age of 15 she had everything to live for.
It saddens me almost beyond words why such a bright young individual would even consider taking her own life; however after years of bullying at school and online Sinead Taylor came to the conclusion that the only way to stop the ongoing abuse was to take her own life.
In the video above, Sinaed vividly talks about the abuse and torment she was subjected too by other pupils at her school and trolls online. Their abuse centered on nothing more than Sinaed being considered a ‘Tomboy’ and therefore bombarded her with accusations of being a lesbian and or bisexual.
Being different; regardless to one’s sexual preferences and their lifestyle, should never give another the right to abuse anyone in any fashion. We all have flaws and faults and therefore none of us are perfect and yet for some their own insecurities often drive them to torment others.
Sinead was found dead at her home in Woolwich last Friday evening. When I first encountered the news I wanted to write and speak out but covering such an event is never easy; Sinead could have been my daughter or yours and with the ever growing reports of school and online bullying we are never certain who the next victim might be.
Throughout her school years Sinaed was continuously bullied, from primary school to her secondary education, the bullies never let up. According to her close friends Sinaed was targeted every day with vile innuendos of her sexual preferences. Even many of the boys she went to school with were responsible for bullying; simply because they didn’t like her hanging around with other boys.
As for the girls at her school they often accused Sinaed of staring at them in the showers and avoided Sinaed whenever in the changing rooms.
During the years of abuse Sinaed took to ‘self-harming’ and every night before going to sleep she would cut herself in defiance of the bullies.
Sinaed admitted that ‘self-harming’ doesn’t make things better it simply makes things much worse and yet despite her online video giving advice on standing up to the bullies and condoning suicide she herself finally succumbed to the enormous social pressures of bullying.
Finally Sinaed moved schools and it was thought that the bullying had ceased but according to her close friends it continued online.
Police have not yet reveal the circumstances surrounding Sinaed’s suicide but simply gave a statement that her body was discovered and that the police are not treating her death as suspicious.
With the ever growing social pressures on our young to be popular which is often fueled through the social networks Sinaed’s passing is yet another poignant message that so often our children are being targeted by bullies both at school and online.
I for one, even though I never knew Sinaed, feel an overwhelming sense of loss for any child to take their own life is another clear message that our social system is becoming more detached through the use of the internet where people, both young and old, feel it is appropriate, acceptable and even fun to torment another human being to such a tragic end.
My heart goes out to the family and friends of Sinaed and I hope that this beautiful, bright and talented young lady is finally at rest and at peace with herself.
I could reflect on the bullies and how they might be feeling at this time knowing that their actions lead the world losing such a precious gift; but I wonder if their own self serving interests will ever allow them to fully comprehend what they have done.
