George Osborne intends to unveil a scheme that will provide up to £1,200 in childcare vouchers, funded by the taxpayer, for those parents who both work. The idea is to get more women back to work; however family groups and organisations have slammed the plan saying it stigmatizes mothers who choose to give up work to care for their child.
I have to say I’m outraged and on all fronts of this equation. No parent, in my view, should be allowed child benefits of any kind.
As a taxpayer and one that doesn’t have children I fail to see why I should support the children of others. Having children in my view is a ‘lifestyle’ choice; it like a family telling me they want a BMW and expecting me to pay for it.
George Osborne should step up to the plate on behalf of all single people and couples who choose not to have children; let’s be honest who would want to bring a child into the world in such a time?
I have no problem with people having children but their decision to do so shouldn’t burden everyone else.
Employers are forced to pay maternity and paternity leave and yet no one force these people to have children. Does anyone stop to think that employers, especially the small to medium sized companies, are having a difficult time enough without providing funds to someone who is no longer productive in the company just because she decided to have a child?
The family groups and organisations are calling Osborne’s plans outrageous but when did any of these groups or organisations stand back and consider the thousands of couples who decided not to have children and yet are still expected to support those who do through taxation?
Welfare is supposed to be a support system, not a lifestyle choice. There are times when we all need the welfare system; generally in times when we are unemployed or where we or ill or worst too disabled to work.
These instances are fully acceptable but to scrounge off the taxpayer just because a couple decided to have a baby should be no concern to the taxpayer.
If people can’t afford to have children then don’t have them but why should these people expect taxpayers such as me to support their children?
We already provide scroungers and lazy people with cash for doing nothing; many of whom have no intention of ever finding a job.
We moan and groan about austerity measures and rising taxation but for some they obviously feel it’s the God given right to fleece the taxpayer just because they want children.
You can cut this cake any way you choose but the truth is that parents are forcing taxpayers to divvy up for a situation of their own making and choice.
It’s time we stood back and realized that welfare, in any shape or form, is not an entitlement and that having children is a lifestyle choice and if a couple cannot afford to have children without taxpayer support then don’t have them and if you do then don’t expect the taxpayer to pick up the bill.
