STUNNING SKELETAL SUPER YACHT – Super yachts are without doubt the multi-millionaires, or more aptly billionaires, play things.
Yes in order to jump on board a super yacht you’re going to have to have extremely deep pockets and actually owning one can run into tens of millions of dollars per year in order to staff and maintain it – gasoline is extra.
Let’s be frank, if you are a billionaire then the last thing you are going to worry about is the odd $10 million a year to keep it on the water and after all owning such a vessel is, as we have become increasingly aware, is the ultimate status symbol.
There is a race on the high-seas; not regarding an actual race to see who is able to go from A to B quicker but rather a race to see who can afford to build and own the largest super yacht.
Recently the Azzam was launch among world fanfare in the yachting world. Azzam was commissioned by a wealthy buyer from the Middle East and at 180m (590ft) in length with a capability of cruising through the water at 31 knots it is the biggest and fastest of all super yachts currently travelling the oceans.
The price tag for Azzam was a very cool £400 million – yes a sum that most of us can’t even comprehend but of course there are those with such vast bank accounts that such a sum equates to merely a drop in the ocean (no pun intended).
The race for the largest, fastest, sleekest super yacht continues and with the launch of Azzam the gauntlet had been thrown down at the feet to the likes of Roman Abramovich who once owned the largest super yacht in the world and who also currently owns no less than six.
So if Roman Abramovich, or indeed any of the world’s billionaires were going to commission the next big thing what would it be?
This article focuses on a new super yacht with a skeletal structure design – it is an architectural masterpiece and simply stunning.
Agreed it is a little unorthodox I will grant you but the super rich really don’t want everything looking the same and indeed to have a super yacht that is also a work of art, a sculpture if you like, then all the better to garner the odd green eye.
Dame Zaha Hadid, a multiple award winning architect, Iraqi by birth and British by adoption, has created what could be every billionaires ultimate dream with a stunning yacht that ticks all the boxes of eccentricity, beauty, art and above all a super yacht of super size that will certainly turn heads in the yachting world.
Dame Hadid recently teamed up with German shipbuilders Blohm+Voss in order to create a fleet of six completely different super yachts.
The design is almost alien spacecraft like and has been noted to look a little like Beijing’s famous Bird’s Nest Olympic Stadium; although this one floats.
Of the six vessels to be built five will 90m (295ft) in length whilst the flagship will be a massive 128m (420ft). The flagship still falls far shorter than Azzam at 180m (590ft) but its real attribute lies not within its length but rather its unique and very unusual skeletal design.
The first of the fleet, know as Jazz, is to be built into a fully working design in order to give billionaire customers a real feel of what they will be buying. The remaining five super yachts will remain as a blank architectural canvas so that those who can afford such a vessel may have them constructed to their exact requirements.
Yes, when you are a billionaire most of what you acquire can be custom made; providing you don’t mind spending that little extra.
