Recently a number of court cases involving child rapists and child murderers has been directly linked to the perpetrators online activities where they have been able to freely access some of the most vile and heinous material, including text, images and video of children being abused.
The British Government, through public pressure, has insisted that Internet Service Providers (ISPs) introduce a mandatory filter that blocks access to all forms of online pornography unless the subscriber specifically request the block is removed.
The Government has also threatened the internet Giants such as Google and Facebook with a change in the law that would make then criminally liable. This is due to the number of cases of child rapists and murders where their actions can be linked directly to the material they have viewed online; which ultimately fueled their desires and therefore acted upon them.
Google in its own defense actually had the affront to announce that it was doing all it could and that it supported an Online Child Protection Organisation at a cost £20,000 a year.
Considering Google’s vast technical resources and that it makes billions of dollars in profit each year the UK Government and the public feel that Google is not doing anywhere near enough.
