SUSPECTED PAEDOPHILE HANGS HIMSELF – The Letzgo Hunting vigilante group yet again confronted a suspected paedophile and reported his activities to the police.
The man, Gary Clearly, a 29 year old engineer from Leicestershire was trapped by the Letzgo Hunting group through an online sting operation.
Their operandi modus is to setup fake social network account of young girls and boys and then lure suspected paedophiles with the opportunity of a face to face meeting.
After the suspect agrees to a meeting, with what they perceive is a child, the vigilante group then pounce and film the entire meeting. The video and the evidence they gather is then handed over the police.
The group maintains that they make it perfectly clear to anyone contacting the fake profiles that the person is chatting with an underage child – they always use the line ‘Do you know I’m only 14 years old’ or some other simply young age.
In this recent plot the group lured in Gary Clearly and then reported his activities to the police. Mr. Clearly was arrested, questioned and released pending further investigation.
After four days Mr. Clearly was found by his girlfriend in his garage; he had hanged himself. The police have issued statement telling Mr. Clearly’s family that their investigation is still ongoing.
One family member, who asked not to be named, gave the following statement:
“I think it is a sad reflection on modern life that vigilantes are operating under cover of the internet. It puts the country back 300 years.”
Letzgo Hunting was set up by a group of concerned parents in the earlier part of this year with the sole intent of luring and exposing online paedophiles.
Currently the group states that it has dozens of fake profiles across a number of social networks and warns potential sexual predators to be aware that they will catch anyone seeking to groom a child for sex.
Once the group does find a suspect they lure them into a meeting and then film the entire confrontation. The footage of any video is then uploaded to their website and YouTube so that anyone can view those suspects.
The group has continuously defended their actions saying that they are simply aiding the police in tracking down paedophiles and they will not stop whilst there are people out there who pose a serious risk to children.
Despite Mr. Clearly’s death the group has no remorse stating that Mr. Clearly was the one who wanted to meet with their decoy and therefore he posed a clear danger to a child. The group has expressed its sympathy to the family members but refuse to accept any wrongdoing or criticism for their actions or methods of hunting down child predators.
The vigilante group was warned by police that gathering evidence in such a way could in fact put any potential court case and conviction in jeopardy.
Letzgo Hunting maintain they are providing a valuable service to the public in order to protect children and their efforts assist the police in bringing suspects in for questioning and investigation.
There are of course those that feel vigilante groups merely exist to boost the egos of a few and that taking the law into your own hands is little more than an arcane and draconian method of exacting justice.
