THE GREAT GATSBY MOVIE SPECIAL EFFECTS REVEALED – There’s nothing like settling down with the family to watch a great movie and if you’re a Leonardo DeCaprio fan then The Great Gatsby is going capture your imagination and provide you with a highly entertaining evening.
We take it for granted that movie makers now employ a huge amount of special effects through CGI and camera trickery.
Some of these a subtle whilst others are very much evident but nevertheless adds to the enjoyment and overall experience of the movie.
When you look back at movies that the pioneers of specials effects created, such as Jason and the Argonauts from Ray Harryhausen ( see ray harryhausen bio) it is evident creators of movies not only were inspired by what he achieved but over the years have built upon it to create an experience that is almost flawless.
Obviously you can’t please everyone and when The Great Gatsby was released earlier in the year some of the effects drew fierce criticism in that many were simply too outlandish and unrealistic.
I’ve watched the video above no less than 8 times and I have to admit it fascinates me how movie makers put it altogether. It is obvious that creating such a movie takes a huge amount of effort and a great deal of knowledge and I for one appreciate movies to taking a leap of faith with the audience by pushing the boundaries even further.
We have come to expect more creativity from directors and actors and surely this is a good thing; after all a movie is supposed to give us a little escapism from our otherwise hum-drum lives and allow us to immerse ourselves in a world of fantasy; even if it’s only for 90 minutes or so.
I hope you enjoy the video above as much as I did and appreciate the level of work required to produce a movie that keeps us entertained throughout its duration.
As for the critics… well everyone has an opinion and it’s true that those who can’t do often criticize those who can; so I wouldn’t pay too much attention to their so-called expert insight.
Just enjoy a movie for what it is; light entertainment and a little relief from the toils of everyday life.
