Is our beloved NHS failing us and is it time that more NHS hospitals are taken over by private companies, such as the case with the Hinchingbrooke Hospital?
We have a love-hate relationship with the NHS; we love it because it is a free healthcare system for all and we hate it because it has become so incompetently run by bureaucrats who care little for the NHS or the thousands of patients who use the service every year.
Finally last week Sir David Nicholson announced that he is to retire and yet the public perception is that he should have been sacked over his failing at the Mid-Staffordshire NHS hospital where over 1,200 people died due to his negligence.
Regardless of how the public felt David Cameron insisted Nicholson was doing a great job and refused to sack him.
The real issue, as any doctor and nurse will testify to, is that there are way too many Chiefs and not enough Indians. The whole system is in complete disarray and is in desperate need to remove over 80% of the bureaucrats that are attempting to run the NHS with no success.
The Government is wasting billions of pounds each year in upper and executive management when those funds could be used to provide much needed training of doctors and nurses.
My question has always been the same – would you let a monkey run a nuclear power station? The answer is no because common sense dictates that the monkey simply does not have the intelligence to ensure smooth operations and most critically safety of the system.
Unfortunately the Government appear to have missed this critical factor when it comes to running the NHS but that is little surprising when you realise that Cameron is more interested in employing his old school chums rather than finding people are adeptly qualified.
