TODDLER’S FIRST EXPERIENCE IN THE RAIN – We take most things for granted and when it comes to the weather we generally just shrug our shoulders and accept whatever is dished up; it’s a normal response to something we have absolutely no control over.
Over 30 years ago, in my mid teens, I was invited to a wedding. I didn’t know any of the people I was simply attending with a friend who didn’t want a long drive by himself.
I was warmly greeted by the family and it was the bride’s father who was the priest to conduct the marriage ceremony.
During the day it started to rain outside as we all sat in the warm and dry and it was the bride who chirped up “oh bugger it’s p****** down”. Without any excitement her father lowered his news paper, stared at her over his half-moon glasses and declared in a calm and quiet voice; “Yes my daughter and it’s also raining.”
Fast forward 25 years and once again I was sitting in a room with a bunch of folks just chatting about everyday life when the heavens opened up outside and the rain came down by the bucket load. As the rain pelted against the windows one of the people quietly smiled and declared; “Ah sweet drops of rest.”
Certainly I was at a loss as to why anyone would refer to rain in such a manner and upon inquiry as to why he told me that years ago in his profession you weren’t allowed to work in the rain for safety issues… hence sweet drops of rest.
Personally I love the rain but equally I love the sunshine. Both are essential factors to life and the content of the video above I find extremely heart warming due to the fact that innocence allows a child to perceive somethings in a completely unique and untainted way and secondly because it allowed me, if just for a moment, to sit back and think how uncomplicated life was as a child… oh how I miss seeing the world through the eyes of innocence.
The little girl in the video is just 15 months old and according to the videos creator this was the first time she had experienced rain.
Considering how happy this wonderful child looks it makes me think that maybe we should all take time out every now and then and play in the rain.
Yes you can remember playing outside regardless of the weather; isn’t it a shame that so many of us lose that joy as we get older?
Enjoy the video; I’m sure it’ll bring back memories for many.
