TOP 5 CONMEN OF THE WORLD – Conning people and businesses out of their money is not something most of us could do. Our moral integrity tells us that it’s wrong to deprive someone of their belongings; no matter what those belongings happen to be, for instance cash or property.
For those less scrupulous the very idea of being able to dupe someone is often more than a just a challenge but also an easier route to wealth.
With most conmen their activities become their trade and rarely do their activities ever accumulate sufficient wealth whereby they can stop and slip away into obscurity.
Above is a video of the Top 5 Conmen of the World would have pulled off some extremely elaborate cons including Frank William Abagnale jr whose crimes including impersonating a doctor, lawyer, airline pilot and five other professions and all before the age of 21.
During his time evading the authorities he managed to cash over $2.5 million in phoney cheques in some 26 countries. Finally after being caught and severing one year in a French Prison, a further one year in a Swiss Prison he was extradited back the U.S.
After serving just four years he went to work for the U.S Federal Authorities as an expert in counter-fraud. Today Frank William Abagnale jr runs a highly successful company helping banks to detect fraud.
Frank William Abagnale jr is not the only infamous trickster in history, others including Bernie Madoff who ran the world’s largest ponzi scheme resulting in private and business investors losing some $50 billion.
I have to admit I often find the crime of fraud fascinating and for varying reasons for such crimes often take a huge amount of self-belief and the ability to lie barefaced right in front of their victims; it’s something I simply couldn’t do.
There is of course the element of skill; take Frank William Abagnale jr and the professions he engaged in – surely to pulling off being a doctor or a lawyer cannot be that easy.
As with the five men featured in the video above it is most likely their crimes with be superseded by other daring confidence tricksters in the future and maybe the $50 billion that Bernie Madoff managed to steal will be exceeded.
