Yellowstone Caldera: Destructive Power Unleashed

The eruption of Yellowstone’s volcanic caldera is not a matter of ‘if it will erupt’ but rather ‘when it will erupt’.

The Yellowstone Caldera is the volcanic caldera and supervolcano located in Yellowstone National Park in the United States, sometimes referred to as the Yellowstone Supervolcano.

The caldera and most of the park are located in the northwest corner of Wyoming. The major features of the caldera measure about 34 by 45 miles (55 by 72 km).

The caldera formed during the last of three supereruptions over the past 2.1 million years and according to some scientists is long overdue for another eruption.

In this video it provides a fascinating insight into the destructive power of  the Yellowstone caldera and what the consequence are likely to be once it does finally erupt.  Consider this… it is estimated that once the volcano erupts it will do so with a force one million times that of a nuclear bomb.
