TOURISTS LIVES STILL BEING PUT AT RISK IN PHUKET – Our sources in Phuket reported that Phuket has, over the last couple of days been subjected to continuous downpours and island wide flooding due to the monsoon season.
Despite the atrocious weather, tourists, mainly Chinese, are being ushered into speedboats for day trips to other islands such as Phi Phi.
Our on the ground source tells us…
“Watch the video above carefully. Note how calm the seas are and yet still tourist are having a very bumpy ride due to the excessive speeds. Now consider waves in the monsoon season can reach 4 meters high. The lack of consideration for tourist safety is astonishing as this morning; despite marine officials’ violent weather warnings, the Thais put money above tourist safety once again.”
Reports have already come in that a cargo vessel from Bangladesh, MV Hope, has sunk around the Phuket waters due to violent sea conditions. So far 19 people have been rescued but 10 people are still missing. With heavy and violent seas it is unlikely any of these souls will be recovered alive.
Ambassadors and Honoury Consuls from around the world have been pleading with the Phuket Governor and Marine Officials to tighten controls to ensure tourist safety but this morning’s display clearly shows that the Thais will risk any tourists’ life in order to extract money.
Our source went on to say…
“Most of the tourists boarding the high powered speedboats were Chinese; you could see that they were visibly concerned and a number of them turned away, refusing to get on the boat. There were a couple of altercations as the Thais were obviously not happy at the loss of the income, although I strongly suspect these tourists won’t be afforded any type of refund.”
Four people, within the last 6 days have already drowned on Phuket’s beaches and yet despite the clear dangers in the rainy season the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) renamed the rainy season to the ‘Summer Season’ in order to attract more tourists to boost income.
Despite the rhetoric that the TAT continuously reports about tourism figures increasing it is clear from the inside that tourism is showing a sharp downturn and this will only get worse as Thai officials continue to put tourist’s lives at risk in order to make money.
